Ingredients:

Dough-

  • 4 1/2-5 C All-purpose flour

  • 1/3 C Granulated Sugar

  • 4 1/2 tsp Dry Active Yeast

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 6 tbsp butter

  • 1 large egg

Filling-

  • 1/4 C room temperature butter

  • 1/2 C packed light brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

Cream Cheese Icing-

  • 4 oz. room temperature cream cheese

  • 1/4 C room temperature butter

  • 1 C powdered sugar

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk 2 C flour, sugar, yeast, and salt together.

  2. Combine water and butter in a microwave-safe bowl, and heat for 30 seconds. Should be warm to the touch but the butter will not be completely melted.

  3. Pour into the flour mixture along with an egg. Mix with a wooden spoon or using a stand mixer dough hook.

  4. Add in 2 more cups of flour and mix. The dough should be thick and sticky at this point.

  5. Add in the last 1/2 C of flour and mix again. The dough should turn shaggy and become difficult to stir. At this point, take out the dough and knead with your hands. If it is too sticky, add in a few tbsp flour. Keep kneading until it turns into a soft and tacky dough that bounces back when you press a finger into it.

  6. Shape into a ball and let rise for 10 minutes uncovered.

  7. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and pat into a rough rectangle shape. Roll into a 10x15 inch rectangle.

  8. Spread the room temperature butter into a thin even layer, leaving about 1/2 inch border all around the outside of the dough.

  9. Sprinkle with the brown sugar and cinnamon, trying to get the same amount all over the butter.

  10. Starting from the longer end, roll up the dough into a log.

  11. Using unflavored dental floss, slide the floss under the log and separate the dough into 12 equal rolls.

  12. Place the 12 rolls into a butter 9x13 inch baking pan.

  13. Place in a warm spot and let rise for 1h.

  14. Preheat oven to 350F. Rolls should have doubled in size at this point.

  15. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Make the icing while they are baking/ cooling.

Icing-

  1. Place the cream cheese and butter in a bowl and use a fork to mash the two together. Make sure they’re softened to room temperature before doing so.

  2. Add powdered sugar and vanilla and mix with a whisk until smooth.

  3. Spread onto warm rolls

  4. Enjoy!!
